About Young Huh

“Light is also color.”

There’s nothing renowned designer Young Huh can’t do with color. From warm neutrals to nuanced pinks to bold chromatics, Huh’s expansive palette engenders a diversity of creations, all of which express her love of “trying on different personalities” to transform each client’s vision into reality.

Born in Seoul and raised in Detroit, Huh collides classic and modern design principles to bring intrigue and balance to spaces large and small, indoors and out. For her, color evokes mood, and light is color. When creating any color story—whether romantic, serene, or dramatic—she first turns to the light.

“The way we perceive color involves light,” Huh says. “Very blue-light rooms—north-facing rooms—cast a different shadow and aspect to color than do south-facing rooms, which are very bright.” Depending on the light in the room, Huh adds, “You have a different experience with color.”

“I think Ketra lighting is really human. It’s the most realistic lighting out there.”

Huh is sensitive to how light impacts color and texture. She relies on Ketra to enhance her “ability to manipulate color and sustain a mood”—and to give her the precision she’s seeking in her designs.

For Huh, lighting is a fundamental part of how we experience our surroundings, and even ourselves. “Lighting is really important because it’s how we see things,” Huh says. “We can manipulate lighting to manipulate our understanding and feeling about color. Having Ketra to fine-tune that light is a magnificent tool.”
