Intelligent Lighting

Colour-consistent light inspired by the sun and paired with reliable, wireless control. The future of light for the built environment.

Built from the start to work with Lutron's most advanced systems, Intelligent Lighting pairs individually addressable, native wireless control with each fixture to create a new paradigm for architectural lighting.

Ketra

The world's most innovative light source. With over 70 patents, Ketra delivers full-spectrum lighting with the broadest tuning range and most sophisticated colour science available—the biggest leap forward in lighting since Edison's carbon-filament bulb.

Orluna

Now Intelligent. Sustainably made architectural luminaires redesigned for native control with Lutron’s most advanced wireless systems. Orluna is where Intelligent Light begins.

FAQs

    What is Intelligent Lighting?

Intelligent Lighting is a new category of architectural lighting that combines advanced light sources with native wireless control built directly into each fixture.

Unlike traditional systems that require control wiring, centralised panels, and complex coordination between trades, Intelligent Lighting only needs line voltage to each fixture—making installations faster, simpler, and more flexible.

Every fixture is individually addressable and wirelessly controlled using Lutron's purpose-built protocol, refined over 30+ years. And because Lutron engineers both the light source (Ketra and Orluna) and the control system, you get true fixture-to-fixture colour consistency and dimming precision down to 0.1%—something nearly impossible when sourcing light and control separately.

The system works with Lutron's most advanced control platforms, including HomeWorks, RadioRA 3, Athena, and myRoom XC, and is designed for luxury residential, hospitality, and commercial projects where both performance and reliability are non-negotiable.

What's the difference between Intelligent Lighting and DALI?

Intelligent Lighting eliminates the control wiring, centralised panels, and fixture-to-fixture colour inconsistencies that come with traditional control protocols, like DALI.

With DALI, you need to run low-voltage control wire from each fixture back to a central controller, house and cool the equipment in a technical room, and coordinate between electricians and low-voltage contractors throughout the installation. Even then, achieving colour consistency across different fixture types, such as downlights and lamps, is extremely difficult because the light sources use different emitter and control technology.

Intelligent Lighting removes all of this complexity: each fixture includes native wireless control, so you only need line voltage. No control wiring. No centralised panels. No electrical closet.

And because Lutron engineers both the light source and the control, downlights, lamps, and linears deliver identical colour and dimming performance. You can create per-fixture scenes, reassign fixtures to new zones wirelessly, and add fixtures post-construction without running a single new wire.

The system uses Lutron's purpose-built wireless protocol—not Wi-Fi or Bluetooth—engineered for reliability and range in demanding architectural environments.

Is wireless lighting control reliable for luxury homes?

Yes—Lutron's wireless technology has been refined over 30+ years and proven in millions of installations worldwide, including the most demanding luxury residential and commercial projects.

Intelligent Lighting uses Lutron's purpose-built wireless protocol, not Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, which means it's engineered specifically for reliability, range, and interference-free operation in complex architectural environments.

Because there's no control wiring to fail, corrode, or degrade over time, the system actually has fewer points of failure than traditional wired systems.

Every fixture includes native wireless control, and the system architecture is designed to maintain performance long after installation—even as homes add connected devices or networks change.

For integrators and designers specifying systems for high-profile projects, this reliability is why Lutron wireless has become the standard in luxury markets: it works consistently, year after year.

Does Intelligent Lighting require control wiring?

No. Intelligent Lighting eliminates control wiring entirely.

Each fixture includes native wireless control, so you only need to run line voltage—no low-voltage control wire, no centralised panels, and no technical room to house equipment.

This dramatically simplifies installation: electricians can rough in and trim fixtures without waiting for low-voltage contractors, there's no coordination around control wire routing or panel locations, and fewer components mean fewer opportunities for installation errors.

The time saved during installation is significant, and the flexibility afterward is even more valuable. Want to add fixtures after construction? Run line voltage and commission them wirelessly. Need to reassign a fixture to a different zone? Change it in software without touching a wire.

The reclaimed technical room space can go back to the wine room, sauna, or storage that makes a luxury home luxurious.

For projects where installation speed, contractor coordination, and future flexibility matter, removing control wiring changes everything.

How does Lutron ensure colour consistency across different fixture types?

Lutron achieves fixture-to-fixture colour consistency by engineering both the light source and the control system—ensuring downlights, lamps, and linears deliver identical colour, output, and dimming performance.

This level of precision is nearly impossible when sourcing light and control separately, because even small variations in LED binning, driver performance, or dimming curves create visible colour shifts between fixtures.

When you program a scene, every fixture type hits the exact same colour temperature and output level—whether it's a recessed downlight, a decorative lamp, or a linear cove fixture.

For designers and integrators working on luxury projects, this is the standard clients will expect once they've seen it—and it's only possible when one company controls the entire light and control chain.

What Lutron control systems work with Intelligent Lighting?

Intelligent Lighting is designed to work seamlessly with Lutron's most advanced control systems: HomeWorks for luxury residential projects, RadioRA 3 for high-end homes with integrated shading and lighting control (when using Orluna CCX fixtures), Athena for commercial and large-scale hospitality applications, and myRoom XC for hospitality guest rooms.

Each system brings full control over individual fixtures, allowing you to create per-fixture scenes, adjust colour temperatures, and reconfigure zones wirelessly.

The integration is native—not an added-on module or third-party bridge—so programming is straightforward and performance is reliable. For projects that already use HomeWorks or RadioRA 3 for shading, climate, or other controls, adding Intelligent Lighting expands the system's capabilities without adding complexity.

And because Lutron's control systems are designed for long-term reliability and support, your clients benefit from a platform that evolves with new features and integrations over time, not one that's obsolete in three years.

Does Intelligent Lighting work in the UK and Europe?

Yes. Intelligent Lighting is available in the UK and Europe. In the future, it will be available in other regions using 230V electrical systems.

Both Ketra and Orluna CCX fixtures are engineered to operate on 230V line voltage, and they integrate seamlessly with Lutron's control systems deployed in these markets.

This means professional integrators and lighting designers in the UK and Europe can now specify the same fixture-to-fixture colour consistency, wireless addressability, and installation simplicity that Intelligent Lighting delivers—without adapting or compromising on performance.

For projects in the UK and Europe, where traditional wired systems like DALI or 0-10V have been the standard, Intelligent Lighting offers a compelling alternative: faster installation, no control wiring, no electrical closet, and the ability to add or reconfigure fixtures wirelessly after construction.
